A major truck accident occurred on August 9, 2013 on Boston’s Interstate 93 highway that resulted in a beer truck driving through the guardrail. The truck was left precariously dangling over parallel traffic. The cab and part of the trailer full of Michelob Ultra were suspended above the Leverett Connector ramp.
Massachusetts State Police arrived at the scene soon after the truck accident to investigate and attempt to clear the wreckage. All lanes heading northbound were closed due to dangerous conditions created by leaked diesel fuel on the roadway. Even southbound traffic was severely slowed on Interstate 93. The commuter rail and MBTA were both temporarily shut down because the tracks were directly under the dangling truck.
Witness Dennis McCauley was driving underneath the ramp when he says he saw pieces of wreckage come raining down on the cars in front of him. He said drivers exited their vehicles to move the debris so that they could drive away from the danger. McCauley recognized the fact that if the truck accident happened seconds earlier, that he could have been severely hurt.
Massachusetts police are expected to report on the cause of the truck crash which turned the Friday commute into a nightmare for many Bostonians.
