Robert and Shirley Johnson, of Jackson Township, New Jersey, died this past Thursday, November 21, 2013, after their tow truck crashed in a wooded area and caught on fire.
The tragic truck accident took place under mysterious circumstances. The Johnsons, who own local business BJ Towing, were responding to an accident in one of their tow trucks. As they approached Cassville Road, the truck accelerated and ran through a stop sign, before jumping the curb and crashing into nearby woods. Police and passersby attempted to rescue the couple, but the fire forced a retreat and the Johnsons died inside their car.
According to the county medical examiner, Robert died of burn injury and smoke inhalation, while Shirley died of a host of injuries including a punctured aorta. The medical examiner has ruled out a heart attack or a stroke as a contributing factor in the crash.
With a medical emergency as an explanation, the local police are forced to pursue other leads for this as-yet inexplicable fatal trucking accident. Jackson Police are asking any witnesses to the truck accident to come forward and share what they know.
