State police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a terrible pickup truck accident that resulted in one woman sustaining life-threatening personal injuries in Stonehman, Massachusetts on Route 28 on November 9, 2013.
Diane Daniel from Melrose, Massachusetts was driving on Route 28 in her Toyota Camry at around 8:00 a.m., when her car was struck by a pickup truck near South Street in Stoneham. The driver of the pickup was a man named Gareth Byrne, from Weymouth, Massachusetts. His GMC Sierra rammed Daniel into a fence near the road.
Daniel was trapped in her car until firefighters responded to the scene of the personal injury accident and freed her from the crushed motor vehicle. Daniel was transported to the Massachusetts General Hospital emergency room to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries, which have since been downgraded in severity to serious injuries.
Witnesses stated that Byrne caused the truck accident by running a red light. Criminal charges have not yet been filed against Byrne, pending further police investigation. Police spokesman David Procopio issued a statement saying it may take more than a couple weeks to properly determine whether to file charges against Byrne. He further stated that the collision reconstruction team still has a lot of work to do, including examining the damage done to both vehicles, the marks on the road, and possible mechanical failures that may have caused the motor vehicle accident.
