A dump truck crash on Interstate 195 in Robbinsville, New Jersey caused significant fire damage to an overpass this past Wednesday. According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT), the damage is likely to result in lengthy traffic delays over the next couple of months.
According to the police reports of the incident, the truck was headed south on I-195 late Wednesday morning when it collided with a concrete barrier and caught fire. Police have indicated that the dump truck driver died in the trucking accident, but only identified the wrongful death victim as a 49 year-old Belleville, NJ man, pending a full autopsy.
DOT officials said that the truck accident will cause significant delays over the next two months as crews work to build a replacement bridge. This particular section of I-195 sees over 30,000 vehicles every morning, as it is the most common route to Trenton.
Director of communications for the DOT, Joe Dee, said that the replacement bridge is expected to be completed in two months. Dee also advised commuters to anticipate longer-than-usual commutes and to plan accordingly for the traffic delays.
