Wheel Breaks Free from Tractor-Trailer, Crashes into SUV in Fatal Accident.

A woman was killed in Hooksett, New Hampshire after the wheel of a tractor-trailer broke free of the vehicle and struck a state police vehicle before crashing through the windshield of her sport utility vehicle on Interstate 93. The freak trucking accident occurred during the afternoon hours of Wednesday, September 18, 2013, and just before the toll booths on Interstate 93 in Hooksett.

The tractor-trailer was traveling in a southbound lane of Interstate 93, when the wheel flew off the truck.  The wheel then apparently entered the northbound lanes, where it struck a New Hampshire police cruiser, being driven by Colonel Robert Quinn, and then flew back into the southbound lane and struck the 40 year-old woman’s vehicle.  The deceased woman’s name has not yet been released, but local authorities have stated that she was a resident of Concord, New Hampshire.

The truck driver did not stop following the car accident, but police released a picture of his truck, which was hauling a modular home, and the vehicle was soon located in Maine.

Authorities are investigating how and why the bizarre truck accident occurred, and they have not yet determined whether criminal charges will be filed against the truck driver.
